Tabletop
All tabletop items are hand carved from a single piece of wood. They are then hand polished to bring out the grain of the wild olive wood. The chopsticks are hand carved out of a light weight Jacaranda wood and then hand painted. The bone inserts and handles on bowls and salad sets are goat bone. (The goat is used for clothing, food, beads, cosmetics and medicines.) The bone is prepared and patiently carved to fit perfectly into the servers. In the batik tradition, wax is painstakingly put on the tiny bone piece to make a design. The bone is then dipped in dye and dried. When dry, the wax is removed to reveal the design. Time consuming and delicate, the artisans still never tire of making a work of art that is practical and unique.
